Matemateaonga Track Tramp

The 3-4 day tramp along the Matemateaonga Range offers stunning views of Mt Ruapehu, Waimarino's farmlands, and lush forests. Following the historic Whakaihuwaka Road, originally built in 1911 to connect Raetihi with the main trunk railway, the track was abandoned during WWI and has since become overgrown. With four well-maintained huts along the way, this hike is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
